We want to congratulate Deb and Dallas Gulley. Jodie, the “mustang of courage”, made it safely to their ranch in California, after being saved and having her rehabilitation started in Texas by our board member, Kindle Gonzales. Kindle found Jodie near her home in mid June. She was living (if you could call it that) in a garbage heap, emaciated, bearing wounds and scars from abuse and beatings, and pregnant. Kindle purchased the poor little mustang mare, took her home, got veterinary and farrier care for her and began the very delicate procedure of getting weight back on her, without causing colic or laminitis. The vet gave Jodie a small window of time where he felt it safe for her to travel. She was originally coming to JERAS, but our friends the Gulleys, whose entire family are “horsey” and who are better equipped to handle a new baby, offered Jodie a forever home. She is settling in quickly and has already been befriended by one of the geldings.

The skinny little mare, whose spirit had been broken, now has a twinkle in her eyes again and looks great! Many thanks to Kindle, Mark, Debra and Dallas.

My goodness! Poor thing doesn’t even look pregnant in the first picture! Thank goodness you all cared enough to give her a second chance. You know that baby would not have made it and she probably would have died giving birth! God Bless you all!

  4. Cathy Ritlaw says:

Yes, Kindle is definitely jodie’s savior. She will have a safe and happy life from now on. Woo hoo! And Deb and her family will love her to death.
