We have been networking the animals at our local shelter, because this is a high kill county. The shelter is staffed with great people. We saw a dog that appeared to be part basenji and I found a friend in Phoenix who offered to foster her and find her a home after June 3. The shelter called us today to say that she had developed a respiratory infection and had to be put to sleep or gotten out of the shelter. We scrambled to set up a little isolation pen, away from the house and our dogs. Tessie arrive tonight. She has a nasal discharge and cough, but is lively and has a good appetite. We started her on supplements and antibiotics, with a little guafenisin to break up the mucous. She is definitely at least half basenji and is very playful and basenji-like.

Wow…guess I haven’t been on the site…this is the little one you talked about…looks basinji, my friend had two of them for almost 16 years…so glad to have found this shelter…and hope I can help get some to forever homes…from afar for now…but hopefully closer in this coming year..

Yes, I have been involved with basenjis since 1976. She is at least half, but not all. She is very sweet and I think she will be fine by the time she goes to her foster in Phoenix in 2 weeks. Thank you for helping with the Mohave Co. animals. Hope you do move here!

Thank you! She actually was tossing one of your rope toys around this afternoon! Thanks!
