We sure had an exciting month! The Chase Community Giving contest began on October 6th and ran through the 19th. Some of our friends and fans worked so hard, literally day and night, asking people to vote for us. We ended up winning a $20,000. grant and WE CANNOT THANK YOU ALL ENOUGH! We sent in the final application paperwork yesterday and, if all goes well, will receive the funding soon.
We have to pay off $8,000 in debt, as we borrowed in order to purchase hay to get us into late spring. We were able to buy in bulk at 75% of the feed store price, so we could not pass up the opportunity. Our bank account was also almost depleted and we have the yearly vet inspection pending to renew our equine rescue license, plus blood work on 10 dogs and other expenses. This grant was sorely needed!
Tucker, the senior beagle we adopted in early August was doing great here after having his dental issues and ear infections treated, but then Carson decided he hated Tucker. Despite being separated, Carson was really stressed, which is life threatening due to his Addison’s disease. Our trusted friend, Jackie, who lives in Oklahoma offered Tucker a great home and then our friend, Keith, in Phoenix also offered him a home. Keith is an R.N. and could tend to Tucker’s ongoing medical needs (he has tumors, one of which is probably cancerous, and his ears need continued treatment) and going to Phoenix was also much easier on Tucker. He was taken there by a volunteer & really enjoyed the 4 hour drive. He is doing great and is teaching Keith’s greyhounds how to sing! Thank you, Keith!
We took in a 4 year old burro gelding whose owner had passed away. Sam was captured as a baby by the BLM. He and Pepito have really hit it off.
Last week, we saw a senior mini dachshund on the Bullhead City Shelter site. We tried sending her info to doxie rescues, but got no response. Then we found out she was about to be put to sleep due to her age and the shelter being full…our friend, Loralyn, offered to drive all the way to BHC to get her. In the meantime, we had told Az. Beagle Rescue about a male beagle at the same shelter. They said they would take him. So, Loralyn went and got both dogs. Tazz, the beagle, spent one night here and was picked up by a beagle rescue volunteer to go to Phoenix.
Peanut, as we are calling the doxie, is here at JERAS. She is a lively & sweet girl. She needs a dental and spay and pre-surgery blood tests due to her age.
Florencia is growing and is 3 months old now.
