Journey’s End Ranch Animal Sanctuary May 4, 2013 Newsletter

We’ve had another busy month. Several weeks ago, our Vice President, Bonnie, set a trap in her rural area to catch 2 dogs which had been running loose in the desert for more than a month. She caught one, which was a pup, and found it a home with one of her friends. It was very shy at first, but is becoming socialized. A week later, she caught an emaciated, sweet little poodle/schnauzer mix female dog who is about a year old. We took her here for a week, vaccinated and dewormed her and got a few pounds on her. We are thankful to our local networking friends, because “Emma” found a fantastic home where she is loved and has 2 doggie “siblings”, a large yard & gets to sleep on the bed with her people. She was spayed this week.

Here she is before & after being groomed.

Emma

One of our other board members, Darcy, just found this beautiful dog in Las Vegas yesterday and was able to get her into a foster home. They hope to reunite her with her owner, as she looks as if she has been well cared for.

beautiful dog found in Las Vegas

Our veterinarian was out on the 23rd to geld little Julio. All went well. He also drew blood from 3 dogs who needed their thyroid levels checked and we did a blood draw on Big Rusty to see if he might have Lyme disease, as he had lived in areas with ticks several years ago. Because he has a lot of soreness and vague lameness, we wanted to rule Lyme out. The test was negative.

Big Rusty

The day the vet was out, Mocha was showing symptoms of pain in the morning and we were not sure if it was a gut problem or perhaps a back injury from running the evening before. It ended up being a spinal injury and she is now on course of prednisone which has made her feel a lot better by reducing the inflammation while she heals.

Mochaloca

Julio

Anne, who does hoof trimming and body work, was out to work on Rusty and he is feeling much better after 3 sessions. He is more comfortable & has gained weight, too. She also trimmed Knickers’ feet, as he is a a two person job. The rest of the horses I can do myself. She also did some body work on Knicky and loosened up his front end. So many horses are in pain from old injuries or misuse and, because they are prey animals, they hide their pain and people are not aware they have problems. At the 2000 American Farrier’s Convention, it was said that 90% of the worlds horses are really unsound, although only 10 % are “dead lame”. They felt that only 10% are truly sound. That is a sad testimony to poor horse care. JERAS practices natural horse care, natural barefoot trimming, gives them lots of room to roam, companionship and proper feeding. Many of the traditional ways of keeping horses- in stalls, with metal shoes and fed grain-are really not what Nature intended and there is now a huge movement to care for horses in a way which respects their natural evolutionary requirements. Even thought most of our horses have old injuries, they have blossomed here because of natural horse-keeping. http://www.jersanctuary.org/natural-and-organic-care/horse-health/

Julio has recovered from his surgery and it back to playing with Florencia. Here is a short video.

We received enough favorable new reviews to receive a Top-Rated Nonprofits 2013 status from Great Nonprofits. Thank you to everyone who took the time to write a review! Additional reviews are welcomed, too.

Journey’s End Ranch Animal Sanctuary Newsletter April 3, 2013

March was a busy month at JERAS. We were fortunate to have beautiful weather. We were busy with routine animal care, hoof trimming and networking animals in need. Honey gets to go for a long walk every evening and gets very excited when she sees a rabbit. I have to run so that she can “chase” them. Her records show that she spent most of her 11 years locked in a backyard, laundry room or small pen. We are trying to give her some enjoyment now, albeit late in life. She really enjoys watching the burros and chewing on bones and rawhide, too.

Honey looking for bunnies

The horses and burros started shedding very early this year. We hope that does not mean we are in for a long, hot summer! Julio is getting big and rambunctious and will be gelded this month. He likes to aggravate his poor mother, Nina.

We were able to get 12 tons of bermuda grass hay for $290 a ton, delivered & stacked in the shed. The feed store price is now about $410 a ton, so we saved quite a bit. We are also getting a new brand of alfalfa cubes which are higher quality and less expensive, saving us about $60 a month.

Carson won a spot in the Furever Rescued calendar for 2014! We want to thank everyone who voted for him. He is doing well, still on low dose antibiotics and his tooth abscess seems to be in “remission”.

We decided to send a mid month newsletter in order to share some good news. Journey’s End Ranch Animal Sanctuary March 12, 2013 Newsletter.

We received word from Great Nonprofits that JERAS has been selected as one of the nonprofits highlighted in Huffington Post’s Top Local Nonprofit of the Month campaign. You can go to this link and vote for us. Right now, we are in 2nd place. This is a great honor and also brings us into the national spotlight.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/03/01/top-animal-nonprofit-of-the-month_n_2792200.html#slide=2172056

Honey, the senior chow chow mix is doing great. It ended up she was actually subclinical hypothyroid and putting her on a very low dose of thyroxine has made her more alert, happier and friendly towards all dogs and even strange people. She had a life long history of “aggression” towards dogs and especially towards people, even in her own family of 9 years. She spent 2 years at another sanctuary before joining us a month ago. We also have weaned her off the Elavil (antidepressant drug) she had been on for four years. It was not helping her and can have serious side effects, too.

Honey enjoying a chewie

Carson’s carnassial tooth abscess has responded well to antibiotics and he will stay on them long term, as his age, health issues and temperament towards strangers makes dental surgery impossible. He is feeling very well lately.

Big Rusty, the old Arabian, and Warrior, the old mustang, have had 2 sessions of massage and body work in the past 2 weeks. Both are feeling much better. The really great news is that Rusty is now spending much more time eating and is gaining weight. His former caretaker of 12 years could never get weight on him. When he arrived here last year, we immediately noticed he was not comfortable and seems to have an old back injury. Anne, the body worker, said his neck and shoulder were so bad that it probably hurt him to lower his head to eat. He seems more comfortable over all and even has been lying down and rolling… something he never wanted to do in the past.

Big Rusty soon after arrival

We will soon be out of hay and are considering switching to feeding two meals a day of hay cubes and one meal of hay. There is a company in Az. whose cube prices are comparable to hay prices and storage and handling are easier, plus there is no waste. A 22 ton semi load would last us 10 months and cost about $8,000. delivered…

Honey, the senior chow chow mix we took in 3 weeks ago, with a lifelong history of “aggression”, is now weaned off the Elavil and has been on SAMe for 4 days, which seems to be transforming her. She is happier, playful towards me and was trying to play with several of the other females today ( I kept her on a long leash while I had her out in the big exercise yard with the other girls). She enjoys being brushed, lets me brush her teeth and let me cut her nails. She sleeps in the house at night, gets several hours a day of play time with Bear in the big yard and has her own large pen where she enjoys her privacy the rest of the day. I take her for a one mile walk every evening.

We had a great day Tuesday- Anne, the hoof trimmer/body worker did Big Rusty and Warrior’s feet and did a lot of body work on them…Warrior got so relaxed he fell asleep & fell over…Rusty’s neck, shoulders, ribs and hind end were out (years of no one noticing he was in pain before he came here)… he just loved the body work. got calmer, was yawning, and is now standing with his weight on all 4 feet and also eating better and spending more time eating…he needs to gain weight, but must have been too uncomfortable to spend much time chewing in the past….we vaccinated Julio for tetanus (he will be castrated soon), clipped Maggie’s nails… then, later on, Honey was actually playful towards me- first time since arriving 3 weeks ago….she was even wagging her tail at Anne, the trimmer.

Carson’s abscessed carnassial tooth is responding well to Keflex, and our vet agrees that we should keep him on it and, hopefully, buy him considerable time… he is old and has numerous other health challenges (including Addison’s disease), is easily stressed and very aggressive towards strangers. We will manage him conservatively at home and will not put him through the ordeal of dental surgery. He arrived in very bad shape in June 2010 and has had almost 3 very happy years here and is feeling very spunky still.
Please vote for Carson so he can be featured on the Furever Rescued calendar! thank you!

Journey’s End Ranch Newsletter Feb. 10, 2013

January was very busy at JERAS. Early in the month, our board member, Billie, took it upon herself to capture & rescue a stray/feral Mama dog and her 6 pups who had been living under someone’s porch in town. The Mama was scared and aggressive and the pups were scared, too. It took her a week, a trap, treats & multiple visits to catch them all. The Mama and 3 pups spent a week here. It was the week we had temps in the teens and wind, so we wrapped their pen in tarps and gave them heat mats and a heat lamp. The Mama was sick, but after 5 days of treatment, bounced back. In the end, all six pups and the Mama dog found new homes. The pups were caught in the nick of time for socialization. Had they lived as feral dogs much longer, they may never have been able to be socialized with people. Thank you, Billie! Great job!

I do the hoof trimming for the 19 horses & burros here, but sometimes I could really use some help. We consider it a huge blessing that we found a local gal who does a very good natural barefoot trim and is reasonable, too. Anne is also knowledgeable in holistic animal care. With her help, some of the more difficult to handle animals now have nicely trimmed feet. Her website is http://www.naturalhooftrimming.com

Speaking of the equines, we have had some rollicking good fun lately!

.

A large dog sanctuary in Az. is closing and is trying to place many special needs dogs.We offered to take an 11 year old Chow Chow mix who has been deemed to be people and dog aggressive for many years. Her owners of 9 years spent a fortune on vets and a behaviorist. All they came up with was to put her on a psych drug 4 years ago. She had received multiple yearly vaccinations over her lifetime, too.

Two years ago, the owners gave up and turned her over the the other sanctuary. There, she has lived in her own pen for 2 years and was aloof & sometimes aggressive. It was lucky for her that they took her, as she otherwise would probably have been put to sleep. At any rate, a kindly volunteer transported her here on Feb.5. Upon arrival, she snarled at me a few times. Within 20 minutes, she wanted to be petted.

I immediately put her on a grain-free, venison/potato food, supplements to help with detox, homeopathic remedies that can help with possible vaccinosis and reduced her Elavil to 3/4 pill. We will wean her off the Elavil over several weeks. Thyroid results showed her to be in the normal range for her breed and age.

We renamed her, “Honey”, because of her color and “new” temperament. She loves going for long walks and is living in a nice big pen for now, until we get to see how she will act with other dogs. Today, she met Bear, and all went very well.

Susan Monty did another portrait using our mustang, Rene’. as a model. It is called, “American Beauty”. You can buy prints and cards at Susan’s website. http://www.etsy.com/people/SusanMontyFineArt

We had to get a new computer, because the hard drive on our Mac laptop was worn out after 3 + years and I also had filled up the hard drive. We got another Mac, but a desktop, with a much bigger screen, which will help me see better, as my eyesight is not great anymore. I have not had the time to set it up yet, hopefully, I will do so this week. All the info from the old one will be transferred and the new one has TEN times the memory capacity..woo hoo!

We want to thank our supporters who allow JERAS to continue providing a safe & happy home to 31 rescued animals.

Love,

We hope everyone had happy holidays. We had a great year, thanks to our supporters and receiving grants from Pepsi, ASPCA and Chase. We were able to expand by adding shelters, a hay shed and more fencing. We took in 5 additional horses in need and 3 more burros, two of whom were pregnant and presented us with 2 beautiful babies in 2012. We fostered 4 dogs who went on to great homes and took in another who is a permanent resident here.

Nina gave birth to Julio on Nov. 28 and he sure is a character. He is very cute, playful and all boy. Now that he is a month old, he and Florencia are beginning to play together. Flo is now 6 months old.

Julio

Warrior, the 23 year old mustang who joined us in November, is doing well, despite his fairly severe arthritis. He is getting along well with Big Rusty and Penny. He and Rusty like to play some “stallion” games, such as biting at each other & sparring. Warrior was a wild stallion for his first 6 years and Rusty was gelded at age 7, so they both feel pretty macho.

Warrior

The dogs got some elk antlers for Christmas. Deer shed their antlers yearly, and we found a seller who collects shed antlers an cuts them up to sell as dog chews.

Raindance working on an antler

We got Maggie a plush ball on a rope, but Carson stole it.

Carson

We are battling Maggie’s dementia (cognitive dysfunction) and have her on vitamin c, b vitamins, SAMe, CoQ10, glutathione, zeolite and Neutricks. The Neutricks seem to help the most. She is 12 years old, but has had some neurological issues since being found as a stray puppy years ago. She used to have rage attacks, but several years of giving her Jernigan Lyme remedies cured her of them, so we suspect she had Lyme or another tick disease most of her life. She is still happy and active, with just some disorientation in the evening hours. She still loves to dig, too!

Maggie

We have been having a cold spell, with night temperatures hitting the low to mid 20′s. That means having to break ice from all the water troughs in the morning. Getting out to feed before the sun rises is easier when I sometimes have great sunrises to greet me.

Sunrise

Merry Christmas & Happy Holidays from JERAS!

It was a busy and exciting year at Journey’s End Ranch Animal Sanctuary.

Before I forget, we have a new mailing address: 3085 East Prairie Hill Rd. Kingman, Az. 86409…mail going to the old address may not be forwarded.

All in all, 2012 was a great year, despite my being kicked in the chest by Knickers in January and trampled badly by another horse in May. After some months, I am healed up. Life goes on!

January found us in the Pepsi Refresh contest- a crazy month of daily voting as we sought to win a $10,000 grant to be used to expand our facility by adding a hay shed, two horse shelters and fence another 3 acres. Thanks to our great friends & supporters, we did get the grant.

Mustangs enjoying shade from the Pepsi shelter

January was also a sad time, as we lost Tara, our Siberian husky, to cancer. Tara had lived on a chain at our neighbor’s for 10 years, neglected, never spayed, being fed cheap food and having little shelter. We were finally able to get her away from him in Jan. 2010 when she was close to death. It took almost a year to rehabilitate her and she had two happy years as part of our family, with access to the house, a warm bed, good food, the medication she needed, and doggie friends. However, her earlier neglect resulted in a hormone-related, aggressive cancer that took her away from us just 2 weeks after diagnosis. She is sorely missed.

Tara smiling

In January, we took in Knickers, a 30 year old Arabian stallion seized from a hoarder who had locked him in a 10 X 10 foot stall in a metal shed for 10 years. Knickers has gained weight and blossomed into the beautiful stallion he was meant to be. He likes to show off & gallop in for his meals of soaked pellets, as he is missing many teeth. He has his own Facebook page, too.

Knickers

We also took in two burros rescued from a feed lot in New Mexico. Both jennies arrived pregnant. Esperanza had a beautiful daughter in late June and Nina had a handsome son Nov. 28.

Florencia

Julio

In April, we took in a 10 year old beagle about to be put to sleep at our local shelter. Rhonda required spaying, a dental & blood work. Her anxiety has been greatly reduced over the months, but she is pretty much a non-stop barker… lucky for us we have no close neighbors. She is playful and very affectionate.

Rhonda

In April, we also took in Rusty, a 19 year old Arabian gelding with an old back injury. He also had a severe fungal skin infection and infected hooves which required several months of treatment.

Over the summer, we added two horses and a burro. Penny, a 23 year old Arab/Appaloosa cross mare arrived and she & Rusty are inseparable. They enjoy the 3 newly fenced acres and shelter we added with the Pepsi grant.

Penny & Big Rusty

Sam, a burro gelding, also joined us, after his owner passed away. He and Pepito have become best buddies and enjoy lots of rowdy play.

Sam & Pepito

Cheyenne, a 15 year old mustang mare also arrived. She had been through numerous homes since being captured at age 4 and was abused at some point, because she will not allow people to touch her. She is calmer now and happy as part of the mustang herd.

Cheyenne

Warrior, a 23 year old pinto mustang gelding arrived in November. He had been removed from an abuser in Ca. by the authorities and faced being put down because he is very arthritic and has trust issues. Once he knows you, he is very sweet. He is gaining weight and is very happy here, sharing the paddock with Rusty and Penny.

Warrior enjoying his new pals and room to roam

We also saved 4 dogs by fostering them until they could go to new homes. We spend a lot of time networking animals in need and have helped save many dogs, cats, horses & burros this year. We also continue to advocate for our nation’s wild horses & burros and to fight against horse slaughter and other animal abuse.

To cap off a wonderful year, we just won a $20,000 grant from Chase Community Giving. Our many wonderful supporters voted for us in this tough contest and this grant will actually keep us afloat, as we had already had to borrow quite a bit to get hay to get us through winter.

We also won a spot on the 2012 Top Rated List from GreatNonProfits. If you wish to read the great reviews we got from our loyal friends, go to http://greatnonprofits.org/reviews/profile2/journeys-end-ranch-animal-sanctuary.

We still depend heavily upon our generous donors, and thank them for their support which enables us to care for 30 wonderful animals. Thank you!

We hope you have a peaceful & joyous holiday season- Merry Christmas & Happy New Year!

Love,

Julio Arrives!

Our one burro, Nina, was rescued from a N.M. feedlot in early November 2011, along with Esperanza. Since there were intact jacks mixed in with the rescued burros, we suspected both jennies were pregnant when they arrived in Jan. Essie had a daughter in June, but Nina was a mystery, as she never got very big as the months passed. Then, in mid November, she started to “bag up”. On Nov. 28, the morning of the full moon, she presented us with a beautiful baby boy. We have named him Julio. He is very cute and very fearless.

Warrior Arrives & A Surprise from Carson

On Wednesday, Christine Griffin and her husband, Larry, brought Warrior, the 23 year old rescued mustang, to us. They were on their way to their property in Eastern Az. They had been keeping him since he was rescued from the San Bernardino Animal Shelter where he was facing being put down. Animal Control had taken him away from an abusive owner. JERAS received an email about him a month ago and we tried hard to find him a home through networking. No one wanted an old, arthritic horse. We could not see him being put down after all he has been through and offered him a home. While at Christine’s, he had his teeth done, which was badly needed. She is a Certified Equine Dental Tech and does great work. A Facebook friend suggested the name “Warrior”, as he is a real survivor. Since he arrived here, I have trimmed his hooves, which have some real pathology, but will improve over time with frequent, correct trimming. He is getting all the fine bermuda hay he can eat and soaked hay pellets and soaked alfalfa cubes, plus vitamins, minerals, joint supplements and PowerStance. All the horses & burros love the donated PowerStance.

Warrior is very wary of people, but once he is haltered, is very well behaved. He has arthritis, lumps & bumps, is underweight and even has a torn nostril. We will never know what abuse and neglect he endured, but he is safe now. I did some TTouch with him today and he closed his eyes & started sighing…I plan to put him with the old Arabs (Big Rusty and Penny) and to bring Rene’ over so that Warrior will have a mustang mare as a companion. Rene’ is a bit of an outcast with the other mustangs, so this plan should work well.

Warrior

Last Sunday, Carson went into what appeared to be an Addison’s crisis. He hates strangers and taking him to the vet is not possible, so we deal with Carson’s health needs at home. I gave him increased prednisolone and he began to bounce back, but then a big lump came up on his throat. I spoke to our vet and the possibilities seemed to be a tumor or enflamed lymph node. I feared it was a cancer, and decided to put him on LDN (Low Dose Naltrexone), which is an immune modulating therapy, safe & cheap. LDN treats many cancers and autoimmune diseases. I had considered trying it in the past, as Carson has 3 autoimmune diseases, but was afraid to tamper with his immune system. After one dose, he seemed happier & perkier. A few days passed, and then this morning, I awoke to a pleasant, albeit messy surprise. Apparently he had a lymph node abscess, and it broke open over night. What a relief! Carson is very lovable towards me, as long as I am not trying to treat him. If he feels threatened, he will bite. So, I tied him to the fence, ran the hose from the shower head & out the bathroom window to Carson so I could warm water hose his neck and flush the hole as best I could. Then I sprayed it with Vetericyn and started him on Keflex. Tonight, there is no more drainage and he feels very well and we are most thankful that he appears to have more time left on this earth with us. His ornery attitude also saves us a lot on vet bills we don’t have to deal with!

Carson

Carson and his adoring fans

We have not yet gotten the grant we won, and we have a few regular donors who have been unable to help us for a few months, so any help is very greatly appreciated. Warrior’s feed alone will be costing at least $150 a month as long as he is eating pelleted hay and requiring extra food to gain weight. Besides donations, you can help us by buying goods & services through our affiliates. Please see our webpage for everything from wine, to music lessons, T shirts, magazines, supplements and animal supplies.

The past month was very busy with caring for the sanctuary animals and networking and helping to save several dogs from county shelters by alerting breed rescues about them. By telling Phoenix area rescues about them, we initiated the rescue of a border collie, a beagle and a smooth collie.

Our weather has been very warm still. Wilbur is still taking his daily mud bath, which he usually no longer wants after September.

Pepito and Sam really enjoy playing and we are so glad we offered Sam a home after his owner passed away. Despite their rough play, they share their lunchtime pan of pellets and supplements.

Our vet was out to do the yearly inspection in order for us to renew our Equine Rescue License with the Az. Dep. of Agriculture. He also drew blood from 7 dogs to check their thyroid levels, since they are on thyroxine. Thyroid disease is an epidemic in dogs now. http://www.jersanctuary.org/2012/02/low-thyroid-kills-dogs/

We received a large donation of PowerStance which the horses & burros love. They really clean up their feed pans now. It is a powdered coconut oil which is a healthy fat and good for their digestive systems, too. http://www.stanceequine.com/ We are most grateful!

Warrior mustang

We received an email last week from a contact in Ca. regarding a 23 year old, abused mustang who was confiscated by the authorities and risked being put to sleep. He was at a municipal animal shelter. We networked him via emails and Facebook, but no one was interested. We began talking with a Donna, a shelter volunteer who was very concerned about him. We contacted a great transporter we know, Celso Rubio. Celso does a lot of trips between Las Vegas and S. Ca. He offered a greatly reduced price because this horse has had a rough life and needs to get to a sanctuary. Yesterday, our friend, Christine Griffin, drove the 2 hours from Ramona to Riverside to get “Warrior” as we are calling him. He will be with her for a week or two pending transport. She is an equine dental tech and will give him a thorough dental while he is there. In the meantime, we are putting up an isolation pen so he has a place when he arrives, while we make sure he is healthy and where we can work with him a little to acclimate him to his new home and probably work on his hooves. We want to thank everyone involved in saving him- Donna, Jen and Christine. He had also come into the shelter with an Arab X and Jen has taken that horse to rehab and rehome.

Journey’s End Ranch Animal Sanctuary October 2012 Newsletter 10/06/12

We sure had an exciting month! The Chase Community Giving contest began on October 6th and ran through the 19th. Some of our friends and fans worked so hard, literally day and night, asking people to vote for us. We ended up winning a $20,000. grant and WE CANNOT THANK YOU ALL ENOUGH! We sent in the final application paperwork yesterday and, if all goes well, will receive the funding soon.

We have to pay off $8,000 in debt, as we borrowed in order to purchase hay to get us into late spring. We were able to buy in bulk at 75% of the feed store price, so we could not pass up the opportunity. Our bank account was also almost depleted and we have the yearly vet inspection pending to renew our equine rescue license, plus blood work on 10 dogs and other expenses. This grant was sorely needed!

Tucker, the senior beagle we adopted in early August was doing great here after having his dental issues and ear infections treated, but then Carson decided he hated Tucker. Despite being separated, Carson was really stressed, which is life threatening due to his Addison’s disease. Our trusted friend, Jackie, who lives in Oklahoma offered Tucker a great home and then our friend, Keith, in Phoenix also offered him a home. Keith is an R.N. and could tend to Tucker’s ongoing medical needs (he has tumors, one of which is probably cancerous, and his ears need continued treatment) and going to Phoenix was also much easier on Tucker. He was taken there by a volunteer & really enjoyed the 4 hour drive. He is doing great and is teaching Keith’s greyhounds how to sing! Thank you, Keith!

We took in a 4 year old burro gelding whose owner had passed away. Sam was captured as a baby by the BLM. He and Pepito have really hit it off.

Last week, we saw a senior mini dachshund on the Bullhead City Shelter site. We tried sending her info to doxie rescues, but got no response. Then we found out she was about to be put to sleep due to her age and the shelter being full…our friend, Loralyn, offered to drive all the way to BHC to get her. In the meantime, we had told Az. Beagle Rescue about a male beagle at the same shelter. They said they would take him. So, Loralyn went and got both dogs. Tazz, the beagle, spent one night here and was picked up by a beagle rescue volunteer to go to Phoenix.

Tazz

Peanut, as we are calling the doxie, is here at JERAS. She is a lively & sweet girl. She needs a dental and spay and pre-surgery blood tests due to her age.

Peanut

Florencia is growing and is 3 months old now.

JERAS will be a $20K recipient in the CHASE CONTEST!

THANK YOU ALL SO VERY MUCH for voting and sharing!

JERAS took in 2 old dogs, 3 old horses, a very wild mustang, & 4 formerly wild burros since January & also had a baby burro born here…. we really could not afford to, but we took a leap of faith. With all of your voting help, these 30 animals now have some security for awhile.

Now we can pay off some hay debt and buy feed to get us through the winter, cover yearly vet visit/lab/facility inspection costs, get liability insurance put anything leftover in the bank… well, we may need a new laptop, this one is 3 years old, & I think we have worn it out, it is acting up.

We will still be depending on our donors to enable us to provide continuing care for our animals in the long run and we appreciate your generosity!
THANK YOU!!

JERAS and I am overwhelmingly grateful to our supporters and to Chase Community Giving!

Voting Procedure for the 2012 Chase Community Giving Contest:

Journeys End Ranch Animal Sanctuary (www.jersanctuary.org) in Arizona is entered in this contest. We are hoping to win in the $25,000.00 category. In order to do this, we need as many votes as we can get. This money will go to support animals in need of a permanent home that are difficult to place due to injury, trauma, age, behavior or neglect. It will also help us to expand our current program to assist more animals. It is very important. Chase is providing us with a great opportunity here.

In order to have the best chance of succeeding, we are partnered with Indraloka Animal Sanctuary (www.indraloka.org) in Pennsylvania. They provide a “heaven on earth” for animals that would otherwise be euthanized. They also support rescue groups and provide community education. Voters get to vote for 2 groups and we are asking everyone to vote for Journeys End Ranch and Indraloka. Facebook users and Chase customers are eligible to vote. The voting period is from Sept. 6th to Sept. 19th. The rules for voting follow:

Saving animals requires more than just taking them in and feeding them. Most will have health problems which need to be addressed.

Rusty is a 19 year old Arabian who arrived in April with hoof infections, improperly trimmed feet, rain rot (skin fungus), and was underweight. Penny is a 22 year old Arab X who came with the same problems in June. They both bonded immediately. I have worked tirelessly to address their skin and hoof infections. They eat as much as they want and get special supplements. I have trimmed their hooves at least every 1-2 weeks. I have gotten some great coaching via email and Facebook from well respected hoof experts, for which I am very grateful.
