Tucker the beagle

Tucker is a 12 & 1/2 year old beagle abandoned by his owners and picked up as a stray. He was wearing tags, but the owners had moved and left no forwarding contact info. He was about to be put to sleep at the shelter. He is overweight, blind in one eye and fairly deaf. He also has two fist-sized fatty tumors, dental disease/gingivitis and severe ear infections. We have started him on anti-fungal and antibiotic ear medication and  are brushing his teeth. He has blood work next week and we are certain he will be low thyroid. If so, thyroxine supplementation will help with his infections and weight. We will schedule him for a dental, if he is healthy enough for the anesthesia. He is a sweet old guy and it is incomprehensible how some people can abandon an animal after so many years. Please consider adopting a senior animal, they will be so grateful. Old dogs & cats should not be dying alone in shelters.

    Hello,

I wanted to thank you for helping out Tucker and although I can’t provide him with a home, I would still like to help him out. Please let me know if there is anything I can do.

    Thank you,
    Maritza

Thank you, Maritza! Tucker seems like he will fit in fine and will be able to live his life out here. He is scheduled for pre-dental lab work and also a thyroid panel Tuesday. We are already treating his ear infection and gingivitis. By the time the lab work and dental are done, we will probably have spent close to $400 to get him on the road to better health. His fatty tumors are huge and probably inoperable, but they don’t seem to bother him. So, as always, donations are greatly appreciated. Thank you. Cathy
